What do you buy at Sound Exchange?

We buy records, CDs and good quality turntables. Anything you wish to sell should be in good condition. Meaning records should be clean and free from scratches, warps or dirt and in their correct jackets. CDs should be in their original packaging. Turntables should be complete and in good cosmetic condition, with head shells and dustcover, if it originally had one. We cannot buy water damaged items!!!!

What kinds of records do you buy?

We buy records to sell! This means that although we are happy to look at any records you want to bring in, we will only be interested in records that our customers will buy from us. The records we sell best are always going to be subjects such as Jazz, Hard Rock, Metal, Goth, Industrial/Experimental, Punk Rock, Blues, R&B and Soul.

We are also interested in 7″ 45rpm records from all eras.

We are also always interested in records from around the world, especially records from Japan, India, Africa, Mexico & South America, The U.K., Germany and France. Sorry, we no longer buy 78s.

What do you pay for items you buy?

Payment can vary quite a bit, however most people have records which are considered common. Common records are usually very popular titles on major labels. Some examples of common records would be The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Prince and Elvis Presley. For such records we typically pay between $2.00 and $5.00 each. Turntables will also have a very wide range of values, high quality tables that are complete and in very good condition will be worth the most. CDs are in very low demand at the moment so we turn away most that we see now. We are always interested in Heavy Metal on CD, but that is about it. Payment for such CDs is usually $1.00 to $2.00 each.

What Do I need to know when I call?

You should have a pretty firm idea of what you have when you call us. You do not need to be an expert, but for instance if you are selling a turntable you should know the brand and model. If you are selling records you may wish to get an idea of the subjects contained. Is it mostly rock? Mostly soul? Mostly big band? Knowing this will help us determine whether it is worth your time to come in. If you are unsure we are always willing to spend a few minutes talking with you.
